Continental says all its tyre models, across various segments, are engineered to be fully compatible with electric vehicles (EVs) and to address their specific performance requirements.

The company has tailored its offerings to include a range of models designed for different driving priorities.

The SportContact SC7 is built to deliver robust driving confidence and performance, while the MaxContact MC7 focuses on precise control and handling.

The UltraContact UC7 is designed to offer both comfort and outstanding wet braking performance.

For those prioritising ride quality, the ComfortContact CC7 provides superior comfort and a quiet drive.

In addition, the EcoContact EC6 and EC6 Q have been developed to enhance energy efficiency, thereby extending the driving range on a single charge.

Continental Tyre Malaysia managing director Andrea Somorova said these innovations come at a time when Malaysia is rapidly embracing electric mobility.

Local statistics show that electric vehicles (EVs) have increased sharply, from over 3,000 units in 2022 to more than 13,300 units in 2023, with projections reaching almost 22,000 units in 2024.

The Malaysian government is also targeting a national EV charger network of 10,000 units by 2025, as part of its broader strategy to grow the EV market, which is projected to reach 20% of the total industry volume by 2030.

Continental’s research and development in EV tyre technology spans more than a decade. Drawing on German engineering expertise, the company has focused on developing tyres that manage higher loads, reduce noise levels, and deliver smooth performance to meet the unique demands of electric vehicles.

This expertise is reflected in its extensive use as original equipment on EVs produced by leading manufacturers such as BMW, BYD, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Smart and Volvo.

For Malaysian consumers, ensuring tyre compatibility involves checking features like load and speed indexes, optimal traction and grip, and energy-efficient design. Furthermore, Continental has incorporated advanced noise breaker technology into its tyres, addressing the increased prominence of external sounds in quieter EV cabins.
