Geely has unveiled a charging station rated at up to 2,250 kW, putting it in direct competition with BYD in megawatt EV charging.
BYD’s Flash Charger is rated at up to 1,500 kW. Both figures are peak charger outputs, rather than power sustained throughout a charging session.
Geely said its tests with the Lynk & Co 10 and Zeekr 001 achieved a 10–70% charge in four minutes 30 seconds and 10–97% in eight minutes 40 seconds.
BYD claims its Flash Charging system can take a compatible car from 10% to 70% in five minutes. The results involve different vehicles and batteries, so the times alone do not establish which system will charge any given EV faster.
Geely’s system uses its Xingrui PowerMind software to adjust charging power and cooling according to the battery’s condition.
The company also introduced a new Ultra Short Blade Battery with a claimed peak charging rate of 6C, separate from the battery used for its quickest reported charging times.
BYD Malaysia has already stated Flash Charging would be introduced at selected BYD and Denza showrooms and service centres. The company has yet to name the sites or set a launch date. Geely has not announced plans to bring its charging system to Malaysia.
