Anthony Loke has offered to resign as Malaysia’s Transport Minister following a decision by the DAP’s Central Executive Committee today.
Loke, who is also DAP secretary-general, said he would submit his resignation letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The move follows the conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Najib Razak, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
Loke’s departure would involve only his Cabinet position. Other DAP ministers and deputy ministers will remain in the government.
For motorists and the automotive sector, Loke said work already under way at the Transport Ministry would proceed despite his departure, with MOT continuing to function normally.
The ministry oversees several areas directly affecting Malaysian motorists. Its responsibilities include policies covering vehicle registration, driving licences, road safety and vehicle technical standards, while the Road Transport Department (JPJ) is among the agencies under MOT.
