Cars don’t usually melt. But two Lexus models have, sort of, thanks to Brooklyn art pranksters MSCHF, who’ve bent a pair of electrified vehicles into strange new shapes for an exhibition called Motomorphosis.
Opening this September during New York’s Armory Week, the show pairs each production car with its own twisted double.
The Lexus RZ 450e gets looped nose-to-tail into Circle Car, forever chasing its own tail. Meanwhile, the RX 450h+ is wrung out like a dishcloth into Twisted Car, its bodywork spiralling as though caught mid-tornado.
MSCHF calls these “Form Cars” rather than concept cars. A real car is built to move; these ones just look like they might, frozen mid-twist. It’s a neat inversion, and typical of a collective better known for chaos than gallery work.
Lexus marketing chief Lisa McQueen said the project wasn’t really about horsepower. It’s about what electrification does to imagination, not just engines.
The free show runs three days (Sept 24-26) at New York’s Chelsea Industrial — a rare chance to watch a Lexus stand dramatically, perfectly still.
