Proton has launched Proton Capital Sdn Bhd, its dedicated automotive financing arm, giving eligible buyers another option when purchasing new Proton vehicles.
The company will initially operate through 12 participating Proton outlets in the Klang Valley, covering salaried employees, self-employed buyers and customers with other verifiable income sources.
Proton Capital said it is intended to complement existing banks and finance companies rather than compete directly with them. Applications will be handled through participating authorised Proton dealers.
Each application will be assessed on income, existing commitments, credit information and repayment affordability. For complete applications, Proton Capital is targeting an initial decision within one working day.
At launch, the company is offering conventional hire-purchase financing for new Proton vehicles, including a standard fixed-rate package and a separate package for the Proton S70 taxi.
Financing products for e-hailing customers are also planned. A Shariah-compliant option is targeted for introduction in early November, subject to availability and applicable terms.
Proton Capital chairman Zhang Qiang said having an in-house financing company would allow Proton to work more closely with dealers and respond faster to customers’ financing needs.
No application fee will be charged, although stamp duty, statutory charges, insurance or takaful premiums, registration fees and other applicable costs will be disclosed before an agreement is signed.
The company plans to expand progressively across Proton’s dealer network after its initial Klang Valley rollout.
