BYD is preparing to launch the third-generation Yuan Plus in China on May 21, giving one of its key electric SUVs a sizeable technical and design update.

Chinese motoring website Autohome reported that the new model, which made its first public appearance at the recent Beijing auto show, would get BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, flash-charging technology and the DiSus-C body control system.
The design changes are evolutionary rather than radical. The front end gets slimmer headlamps and a chrome strip running across the nose, while the side profile uses semi-hidden door handles. BYD is also offering optional colour treatment for the D-pillar panel, giving the SUV a little more personalisation than before.
Six exterior colours are listed for China: grey, green, white, pink two-tone, blue two-tone and green two-tone. The SUV measures 4,665 mm long, 1,895 mm wide and 1,675 mm tall, with a 2,770 mm wheelbase. Buyers can choose between 18-inch and 19-inch wheels.
At the rear, the new Yuan Plus gets a two-section high-mounted brake light and tail-lamps set into a full-width rear panel. Autohome said the lighting signature has a flowing effect when lit.
Inside, BYD has fitted a larger central touchscreen. The gear selector has moved to a column-mounted layout, which frees up space on the centre console for a wireless charging pad. Some physical buttons remain, and the air vents keep the Yuan Plus’ more playful interior style. The car also gets the latest Dynasty-family steering wheel, more speakers and ambient lighting.
The biggest shift is underneath. Autohome said the new Yuan Plus would move to a rear-wheel-drive electric platform, with two motor outputs: 200 kW (272 PS) and 240 kW (326 PS). It would also offer up to 630 km of electric range, though the report did not specify the test cycle.
For BYD, this update gives the Yuan Plus a stronger technical pitch than the outgoing car. Rear-wheel drive, faster charging and the second-generation Blade Battery make it more than a mild facelift, even if the cabin and exterior design remain familiar.
