Geely claims its new AI-powered Smart Charging system can manage battery temperature more proactively during high-power charging and increase battery cycle life by up to 20%.
The system uses Geely’s Xingrui PowerMind smart-energy AI model, developed jointly with StepFun.
It coordinates the vehicle, battery, charging station, cloud, electricity grid and energy-storage system, then adjusts peak charging current, cooling intensity and charging duration according to the battery’s real-time condition.
Geely has also developed what it calls lithium-ion pulse restoration technology. The system applies micro-pulse currents that, according to the automaker, can reactivate lithium ions accumulated at the negative electrode during repeated fast charging.
Geely said combining the pulse-restoration technology with AI charging management can increase battery cycle life by up to 20%. The company has not disclosed the test conditions, baseline cycle count or independent validation behind the figure.
Thermal management is another part of the system. Geely said PowerMind can predict battery temperature up to 30 seconds in advance and adjust charging power before temperatures rise excessively. The system is designed to keep average battery temperature below 55°C and peak temperature below 65°C during fast charging.
A five-point liquid-cooling system manages heat across the energy-storage battery, charging pile, cable, charging port and vehicle battery pack.
The technology is being introduced with Geely’s fifth-generation Smart Charging Station, which has a peak power rating of up to 2,250 kW.
In Geely’s real-world tests, Lynk & Co 10 and Zeekr 001 vehicles equipped with the 12C-capable Shendun Golden Battery charged from 10% to 70% in 4 minutes 30 seconds and reached 97% in 8 minutes 40 seconds.
