Audi has given an early look inside the new Q9, its first large full-size SUV and new flagship model, ahead of a world premiere in summer 2026.

The Q9 is widely expected to be based around combustion power, although mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions are likely to form part of the mix.

Audi has not confirmed the powertrain line-up in this interior preview, with final details due only at the official reveal.

The Q9 sits above the Q7, giving Audi a proper three-row luxury SUV rival to the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS.

For now, Audi is talking mainly about the cabin. The Q9 can be had with six or seven seats, with the six-seat version getting two electrically adjustable individual seats in the second row.

Audi said these seats come with active ventilation in the cushion and backrest centre panels, which gives the big SUV a more business-class feel. The seven-seat version is aimed at families, with all three second-row seats able to take child seats.

The front seats can be specified with ventilation and massage functions, while the third-row seatbacks can be folded electrically. It sounds like Audi is trying to make the Q9 feel less like a stretched Q7 and more like a luxury lounge on wheels.

There is also a first for Audi: electrically operated doors. They can be opened or closed using the key, myAudi app, MMI system, brake pedal or seatbelt buckle.

Surround sensors can stop a door from opening into an obstacle, and Audi said the system can also detect approaching cyclists or other road users.

Another big-ticket feature is the standard panoramic glass roof, measuring about 1.5 sq m. It uses nine individually controllable glass segments that can turn opaque at the press of a button, so there is no conventional sunblind. In the top trim, 84 LEDs illuminate the roof in one of 30 colours.

The cabin also gets contour lighting, an updated Bang & Olufsen premium sound system with 4D sound, headrest speakers and seat actuators that let occupants physically feel parts of the music.

Storage has also been reworked, with two Qi2.2 wireless charging pads, USB-C ports rated at up to 100 watts, and an aluminium rail system in the boot for securing luggage. Audi also includes a roof rack for the standard roof rails.

Audi has not released dimensions, engine details or performance figures yet. Those should arrive when the Q9 makes its full debut in summer 2026.
