GWM Malaysia has handed over a locally assembled Wey G9 Hi4 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) to the Ministry of Finance for evaluation as a potential government fleet vehicle.
The MPV is taking part in a Proof of Concept (POC) programme involving the ministry and government fleet concessionaire Spanco Sdn Bhd.
The vehicle was received by Datuk Alan Abdul Rahim of the ministry’s Public Asset Management Division, with representatives from MOF and Spanco present.
GWM said the programme would allow the Wey G9 and its electrified powertrain to be assessed under real-world government fleet operating conditions.
The company has not disclosed the duration of the trial, number of vehicles involved or whether it could lead to procurement.
Priced at RM269,800, the seven-seat Wey G9 is assembled by EP Manufacturing Bhd in Pegoh, Melaka.
Its Hi4 system combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with front and rear electric motors, producing 442 PS and 642 Nm.
A 44.2kWh battery provides a claimed 170km NEDC electric range.
