Freelander will expand beyond China in three stages, starting with the UAE before moving into Australia and New Zealand and later Europe, the UK and Ireland.
The standalone brand jointly developed by Jaguar Land Rover and Chery has made the UAE its first international market, with the Middle East serving as the launchpad for a broader overseas push.
Dealer agreements are already in place with Al Tayer Motors for Dubai and the Northern Emirates and Premier Motors for Abu Dhabi. UAE customers can register their interest in the Freelander 8, although launch and delivery dates have yet to be announced.
Freelander plans to extend its dealer network across Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan and Egypt during the fourth quarter of 2026, followed by more left-hand-drive markets in 2027.
Its second phase will turn to right-hand-drive countries, with Australia and New Zealand identified as priority markets. Both are expected to receive the brand in 2027, with right-hand-drive products and dealer networks now being prepared.
Europe comes next. Freelander plans versions that comply with European regulations for Germany, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Spain before moving into the UK and Ireland. Timing and specifications will be announced market by market.
Leading the expansion is the Freelander 8, a large electrified all-terrain SUV and the brand’s first production model.
The Middle East version uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged hybrid engine, a 34.12kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and dual-motor all-wheel drive. Freelander quotes up to 460kW and 662Nm, along with 110km of electric range and 886km combined range. Specifications vary by market.
The SUV has also undergone validation in hot, dusty environments, with regional development influencing features including its air-conditioning system and Sand Mode.
Freelander is owned by JLR, which leads the brand’s design work, while Chery contributes electrified-vehicle technology, manufacturing and supply-chain capabilities. The vehicles are produced at the Chery Jaguar Land Rover plant in Changshu, China.
