The police force is evaluating three Proton e.MAS electrified vehicles to see how battery-electric and plug-in hybrid models could fit into its fleet.

Pro-NET handed over an e.MAS 5 Premium, e.MAS 7 Premium and e.MAS 7 PHEV Premium Plus at Bukit Aman on Sept 10.

The vehicles would be assessed under real-world operating conditions, covering drivability, practicality and charging requirements.

Proton deputy chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Rashid Musa handed the vehicles to police logistics and technology department director CP Datuk Redzuan Abd Hamid.

Gentari would provide free charging for all three throughout the exercise.

Pro-NET said the programme allowed police personnel to experience the vehicles in everyday use. Feedback would help the police force determine where electrified vehicles could suit its operational requirements.

Possible applications could eventually include routine duties such as crime-prevention patrols, although any deployment would depend on the evaluation results and future government decisions.

The exercise follows earlier government trials involving electrified vehicles. Pro-NET supplied e.MAS models to the Transport Ministry in March as part of an initiative to assess EVs for official use.

It also came as e.MAS sales rose sharply. Pro-NET said the brand recorded 27,403 domestic registrations from January to August 2026, accounting for more than 60% of Malaysia’s EV registrations over that period. Total domestic and export registrations reached 27,856 units.

August alone produced a record 6,047 e.MAS sales, led by the e.MAS 5. Proton separately reported 4,818 units for the e.MAS 5, 613 e.MAS 7s and 616 e.MAS 7 PHEVs during the month.

Pro-NET now operates 60 e.MAS dealerships, 46 authorised service centres and 10 body and paint facilities nationwide as it builds supporting infrastructure around the growing fleet.
