Mercedes-Benz has opened orders in Germany for the C 300 4Matic electric, the second all-wheel-drive version of its new battery-electric C-Class.

The new variant sits below the C 400 4Matic electric and starts at €62,951 (about RM297,700) including VAT for private buyers, or €52,900 (RM250,200) excluding VAT for business customers.

The C 300 4Matic uses two permanent-magnet synchronous motors, one on each axle, producing a combined 310 kW and 800 Nm. It accelerates from 0-100 kph in 4.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 210 kph.

Mercedes-Benz said the 4Matic system engages only when required, helping to reduce energy consumption during normal driving.

An 85 kWh usable lithium-ion battery gives the C 300 4Matic a WLTP range of 549 to 690 km, depending on specification.

Its 800-volt electrical system supports DC charging at up to 320 kW, with a 10-80% charge taking about 22 minutes. Under suitable conditions, a 10-minute charge can add as much as 290 km of WLTP range.

The electric C-Class also uses Mercedes-Benz’s new One-Box braking system. Recuperation reaches 300 kW, and the carmaker said up to 99% of braking manoeuvres can be handled without using the conventional friction brakes, including when the anti-lock braking system is active.

Optional Airmatic air suspension and rear-axle steering are available. With rear steering fitted, the turning circle is 11.2 metres.

The electric C-Class has a low, wide front, a coupé-like roofline and rounded rear. Depending on equipment, its illuminated grille can display light animations when the car is locked, unlocked or charging.

Practicality figures include a 470-litre boot and a 101-litre front luggage compartment. Braked towing capacity is up to 1,800 kg.

Inside, buyers can specify the 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen running the Mercedes-Benz Operating System. Available equipment includes ventilated seats with massage functions.

Standard driver assistance includes DISTRONIC Distance Assist and parking assistance, while optional packages add Level 2 steering and distance support as well as a 360-degree camera.

The C 300 4Matic joins the C 400 4Matic, which has 360 kW, a 94 kWh usable battery and up to 762 km of WLTP range.

Mercedes-Benz said rear-wheel-drive versions with different battery options will follow.
