XPeng has opened its first X-Energy megawatt charging station in Hong Kong, using a 400 kWh battery storage system to deliver up to 1 MW without requiring an equally powerful connection to the electricity grid.
The station, developed with Hong Kong charging operator Halo Energy, can draw no more than 240 kW from the grid.
Electricity is stored locally and released when required, allowing the system to supply substantially higher power to a vehicle during a charging session.
XPeng quotes a peak output of 1,000 kW and up to 1,000A through its liquid-cooled charging hardware. The site has four charging bays, with one equipped for megawatt charging. It is open to electric vehicles from all brands.
The battery-buffer arrangement is particularly relevant in dense cities where installing a megawatt-scale grid connection may require expensive electrical upgrades.
Instead, the 400 kWh storage system can recharge at a lower rate between vehicles and provide the additional power needed during short high-output sessions.
The 1 MW figure is a maximum equipment rating rather than the charging rate every EV will receive. XPeng said actual output depends on the vehicle, battery temperature, state of charge and charging-system compatibility. No current XPeng production model can accept the full megawatt output.
XPeng described the Hong Kong installation as its first X-Energy megawatt charging station globally and Hong Kong’s first publicly accessible facility in this power class. The station, which entered operation on Sept 15, is located in San Po Kong, Kowloon, next to XPeng’s Airside flagship showroom.
Hong Kong served as XPeng’s starting point for its own charging network outside mainland China. In March 2025, the company announced plans to install XPeng-branded chargers in the territory, including 360 kW-plus Hypercharging equipment.
XPeng has indicated that X-Energy stations would also be introduced in Europe, where the company plans to expand its self-operated fast-charging network.
