BYD has introduced a new Standard variant of the Seal 6 in Thailand, adding a more affordable option below the existing Dynamic and Premium grades, according to Thai automotive publication MassAutoCar.

In Thailand, the Seal 6 range now starts from 799,900 baht (RM98,000) for the Standard, followed by 899,900 baht (RM110,000) for the Dynamic and 949,900 baht (RM116,000) for the Premium.

The new entry-level model adopts a smaller 46.08 kWh Blade battery while retaining the sedan’s rear-wheel-drive layout.

Positioned as the most accessible member of the range, the Standard is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor producing 95 kW and 220 Nm of torque. It has a claimed driving range of up to 410 km under the NEDC test cycle, while DC fast charging is supported at up to 80 kW.

To achieve its lower price point, the model also comes with a pared-back equipment list compared with the higher-spec Dynamic and Premium variants.

The Thailand-market variant isn’t expected to be offered in Malaysia following the implementation of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry’s (Miti) revised import requirements for fully electric vehicles, which took effect on July 1.

Under the updated policy, imported completely built-up (CBU) EVs must have a minimum cost, insurance and freight (CIF) value of RM200,000 and a minimum power output of 180 kW.

With its 95 kW motor, the new Seal 6 Standard does not meet the power threshold despite offering a lower entry price in Thailand.

This is despite the existing China-built Seal 6 Dynamic already being sold in Malaysia from RM100,000 on-the-road, excluding insurance, making it one of the country’s most affordable electric sedans.
