Zeekr Malaysia put the Zeekr 7X at the head of the 10KM field at Malaysia Marathon 2026, using the Merdeka weekend event to mark nearly two years since the electric car brand entered the Malaysian market.
The Geely-owned premium EV brand was title sponsor of the 10KM category, with Zeekr 7X units serving as the official timing and lead cars. More than 100 invited Zeekr owners, media and business partners also took part in the run.
Malaysia Marathon 2026 was held in conjunction with the country’s 69th National Day celebrations and Visit Malaysia 2026. Zeekr said its involvement was also intended to support Malaysia’s sports tourism push, with the event drawing runners from Malaysia and abroad.
Zeekr extended its Merdeka programme beyond the race. A convoy of its cars set off from Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, while selected owners took part in a National Day-themed display featuring all three models in the Malaysian line-up, each wearing special Merdeka decals.
The event comes as Zeekr approaches its second anniversary in Malaysia. The brand established its Malaysian presence in December 2024 and subsequently formed Zeekr Intelligent Technology (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd as its national sales company, covering wholesale operations, dealer development, marketing and oversight of authorised aftersales operations.
General manager Eddy Lu said the marathon gave Zeekr an opportunity to celebrate National Day with its customers, partners and the wider community through sport rather than a conventional standalone brand event.
Proton, meanwhile, sponsored the 5KM category. The all-new Proton Saga led 10,000 participants as the official lead car, while 100 Proton management staff and employees joined the event. The 5KM race was flagged off by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The wider marathon attracted more than 25,000 runners from 69 countries across its 42KM, 21KM, 10KM and 5KM categories. Proton also gave away an all-new Saga through a post-event lucky draw, with Muhammad Eusoff Abdul Salim selected as the winner.
