The 2026 GWM Tank 500 HEV has gained app-based remote control and vehicle monitoring in Malaysia, with the update focused on connectivity rather than mechanical changes.
Owners can now remotely start or stop the engine, operate the air-conditioning and prepare the cabin before getting in.
Other functions include control of seat ventilation and the air purifier, together with remote locking and unlocking. Windows and the sunroof can also be checked and closed through the smartphone connection.
Vehicle information is available remotely as well. GWM’s Malaysian app platform supports real-time monitoring of tyre pressures and temperatures, fuel level, remaining driving range and vehicle location.
For the Tank 500 HEV, the system adds alerts for conditions such as low fuel, a low 12V battery and abnormal tyre pressures or temperatures.
Owners can locate the SUV remotely, activate its horn and hazard lights when searching for it in a car park, and set a geofence that generates an alert if the vehicle leaves a defined area.
The hardware underneath is unchanged. The 2026 model retains its 2.0-litre turbocharged hybrid powertrain along with the existing comfort, safety and off-road equipment.
GWM’s ownership package includes a lifetime warranty on the engine, transmission and HEV system for eligible first private owners, an eight-year/200,000 km high-voltage battery warranty and a six-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty.
GWM Malaysia has not indicated whether earlier Tank 500 HEVs can receive the new connected functions retrospectively.
