Volvo Cars has unveiled the EX60, a five-seat electric SUV it said would take aim at the heart of the global mid-size market with long range, rapid charging and a simplified buying process.
The model is now open for order in Europe, with the US due to follow in late spring, Volvo said.
In its top all-wheel-drive form, Volvo claimed the EX60 could travel up to 810km on a single charge. It also said the car could add up to 340km of range in 10 minutes when connected to a 400kW DC fast charger, a figure that depends on charger availability and conditions.
Volvo Cars CEO Håkan Samuelsson said the EX60 marked “a new beginning” for the company, pointing to a fresh product and manufacturing approach that includes mega casting, cell-to-body battery integration and a new core computing set-up.
The EX60 arrives with three powertrain options.
Volvo said the P12 AWD delivers the headline 810km claim, while the P10 AWD is rated at up to 660km and the rear-wheel-drive P6 at up to 620km. Volvo also said buyers would be offered a clearer ordering path, including pre-configured cars for faster delivery, alongside full custom builds that take longer.
A 10-year battery warranty is included. In Sweden, Volvo said private buyers would also get three years of free home charging, with other markets set to follow.
Underneath, the EX60 is the first Volvo built on SPA3, the brand’s new electric vehicle architecture, and it runs Volvo’s HuginCore system. Volvo said the set-up improves modularity, manufacturing efficiency and cost, while the structural battery and new in-house electric motors are designed to improve energy use and reduce weight.
Volvo also leaned heavily on software. The EX60 is the first Volvo to launch with Google’s Gemini assistant integrated into the car, alongside an updated infotainment experience intended to feel quicker and more responsive. Volvo cited partnerships with Google, NVIDIA and Qualcomm Technologies as part of the technology stack.
On design, Volvo said the EX60 posts a 0.26 drag coefficient, helped by a low nose, sloping roofline and tapered sides. It also flagged a premium Bowers & Wilkins audio system with 28 speakers, including headrest speakers in the main seats, and said Apple Music would be pre-installed with Dolby Atmos.
Safety remains a key selling point. Volvo said the EX60 uses a strengthened safety cage with boron steel and introduces an updated multi-adaptive seatbelt concept, with over-the-air updates intended to keep adding functions after delivery.
Production is scheduled to start this spring at Volvo’s factory in Sweden, with P6 and P10 deliveries planned for summer and the P12 following after.
The electric model is also available as the EX60 Cross Country for better offroad capability.
