Singapore’s Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums rose across all categories in the first September bidding exercise, with Category A setting a new record at S$133,009 (RM428,083).
Category A also covers fully electric cars with maximum power output of up to 110kW (147PS). Singapore raised the EV threshold from 97kW in 2022 so that more mass-market electric cars could qualify for the cheaper category. More powerful EVs fall under Category B.
Land Transport Authority data showed the Category A premium climbed 3.5% from S$128,501 (RM413,576) in the previous tender. It also surpassed the earlier record of S$129,000 (RM415,181) set in July.
Category B, covering larger and more powerful cars, rose 3.1% to S$135,001 (RM434,494).
Commercial-vehicle Category C increased to S$93,101 (RM299,641), while motorcycle Category D reached S$12,556 (RM40,411).
The open Category E premium rose to S$137,890 (RM443,792).
Demand remained heavy. LTA recorded 1,708 bids for 1,195 Category A COEs, while Category B received 1,333 bids for a quota of 934. Across all five categories, 4,776 bids were submitted for 3,253 available COEs.
LTA said after the exercise that COE prices remained elevated following a three-week gap since the previous tender and urged buyers and dealers to be prudent when bidding.
The agency had already scheduled the longer interval between the second August exercise and the first September tender.
The total COE quota for August to October stands at 19,085, only 0.2% higher than the previous three-month period.
