Mercedes-Benz has expanded the electric VLE range with a new 310kW all-wheel-drive flagship, while also introducing cheaper entry-level configurations for the VLE 300.

The VLE 400 4Matic sits at the top of the line-up and uses a 115kWh usable battery. Mercedes-Benz quotes up to 654km of WLTP range, with the dual-motor system taking the MPV from 0-100kph in 6.5 seconds.

Its all-wheel-drive hardware is intended to improve traction in poor weather and when towing. The VLE 400 4MATIC can pull up to 2.5 tonnes, while a 100kg towbar load allows items such as e-bikes to be carried on a suitable rack. Trailer stability control and Trailer Manoeuvring Assist are also included.

Provisional energy consumption for the VLE 400 4Matic is 20.0-21.7kWh/100km under WLTP testing.

German prices start at €78,452.04 (about RM368,800) including VAT for the five-seat VLE 400 4Matic, while the six-seater starts at €78,909 (RM370,900).

At the other end of the range, Mercedes-Benz has lowered the entry point for the VLE 300 by making some equipment optional rather than standard. The five-seat version now starts at €70,735.39 (RM332,500) including German VAT, with the six-seater priced from €71,187.59 (RM334,600).

One of the changes is suspension choice. Buyers can now specify conventional comfort suspension instead of air suspension. AC charging at up to 11kW has also moved to the options list.

Mercedes-Benz has added an Advanced equipment package as well, bringing the total number of packages to four. It includes items such as 19-inch alloy wheels, darker rear glass and additional USB connections.

Higher packages continue to add equipment including rear-axle steering, Digital Light, the Burmester 3D surround sound system, MBUX Superscreen and ventilated front seats.

The VLE is Mercedes-Benz’s new battery-electric people carrier, positioned as a more passenger-focused alternative to a conventional van. Depending on configuration, it can seat up to eight occupants.

Orders for the expanded range have opened in Germany.
