Mercedes-Benz is pushing a major over-the-air software update to cars fitted with its third-generation MBUX infotainment system, turning the cabin into something closer to a cinema, games lounge and mobile office in one hit.
Branded MBUX 3.3, the upgrade is being deployed worldwide and brings spatial audio, sharper video formats, a revamped calendar app and broader voice control.
On the entertainment front, selected apps such as Amazon Music, Audible and TIDAL now support Dolby Atmos, giving music, podcasts and audiobooks a much deeper, more immersive soundstage. Amazon Music and Audible can run natively on the car’s screen, and in selected markets new users get a free trial to both services.
Video gets a serious lift too. Chosen titles from Sony Pictures’ RIDEVU service are now available in IMAX Enhanced format with DTS:X audio, nudging in-car movie sessions closer to a proper cinema experience during charging or rest stops. For quick distractions, a new Gamepack adds a bundle of retro-style mini-games designed for short bursts rather than long hauls.
Productivity features have been tightened up. A new MBUX Calendar replaces the older In-Car Calendar, updating faster and linking more neatly with MBUX Notes and, soon, Meetings.
One login ties these together, while navigation can automatically plan routes to meeting locations. Microsoft Teams calls can be started directly from the app, and drivers can ask via voice for a briefing or a rundown of their day.
Voice control itself now reaches deeper into vehicle settings, strengthening the hands-free link between driver and car.
“Our latest MBUX update makes every drive more immersive and convenient,” said Mercedes-Benz chief software officer Magnus Östberg.
