Chery plans to begin vehicle validation of its all-solid-state battery technology in 2027, chairman Yin Tongyue said at the 2026 World Power Battery Conference in Yibin, Sichuan Province, China.
Yin said Chery’s solid-state cells have reached an energy density of 400Wh/kg. The company is developing the technology under its Rhino Battery programme, which covers batteries for hybrids, battery-electric vehicles and solid-state applications.
Before the all-solid-state system reaches vehicles, Chery plans to install a solid-liquid hybrid version of the Rhino Battery in vehicles during the fourth quarter of 2026.
The timetable builds on Chery’s battery strategy announced at its Battery Night event in March. The carmaker formally introduced the Rhino Battery there as part of a broader push into battery development and energy technology.
Safety remains a major focus. Yin said Chery subjects its batteries to validation covering high and low temperatures, salt exposure, collisions, underbody impacts and water immersion before they are approved for vehicle use.
The 2027 programme for vehicle-level validation does not mean the start of mass production. Chery has yet to announce when vehicles powered by its all-solid-state batteries will go on sale.
