GWM Malaysia is using the GATE (Global Automotive and Technology) Expo 2025 in Kuala Lumpur to signal its next big move in the family MPV space, as it prepares to launch the WEY G9 hybrid people-mover here in early 2026.
The brand, now in its third year in Malaysia, said the G9 will debut its Hi4 (Hybrid Intelligent 4-Wheel Drive) system locally as a premium yet practical choice for larger households.
Developed through GWM’s global R&D network, Hi4 pairs dual-motor four-wheel drive with smart energy management to deliver what the company calls “the performance of 4WD with the efficiency of 2WD”.
“Hi4 represents the next step in hybrid innovation,” said GWM Malaysia managing director Cui Anqi, who added that the system has been tested in extreme conditions and tuned for Malaysia’s hot, humid climate and varied road network.
Local executives described the WEY G9 as a “first-class for all” MPV, combining comfort, technology and efficiency for Malaysian families. “It brings together the best of both worlds, luxury and technology, in a practical, reliable way designed for our roads,” said GWM Malaysia chief operating officer Roslan Abdullah.
In China, the G9 has already cleared 10,000 units in October 2025, putting it in contention for the top spot among MPVs across petrol, hybrid and electric segments and giving GWM confidence about Malaysian acceptance.
GWM is also using GATE 2025 to stress localisation, working with Malaysian vendors on parts such as seat modules, wiring harnesses, subframes and batteries, with more components to be localised over time as it builds a longer-term presence in the country.
