Proton has launched the e.MAS 5 in Nepal, giving its small electric vehicle a second export market after Singapore.

Jagdamba Motors, Proton’s authorised distributor in Nepal, introduced the car at an event in Kathmandu attended by Malaysian embassy representatives, government officials, business partners and the media. Nepal already sells the larger e.MAS 7, which arrived in 2025.

The e.MAS 5 is available in Prime and Premium form. Local launch material lists introductory prices of NPR2.999 million (RM80,600), for the Prime and NPR3.499 million (RM94,000), for the Premium. The offer is limited to the first 100 customers.

Proton said the Nepal launch generated about 200 bookings on its first day. The result followed a strong start in Malaysia, where the e.MAS 5 remained the country’s volume-leading EV through June. Proton delivered 10,793 units during the first half of 2026.

Nepal is the model’s second destination outside Malaysia. Singapore received the e.MAS 5 in July, joining the e.MAS 7 in Proton’s line-up there.

The two rear-wheel-drive versions offer a WLTP ranges of 225 km and 325 km respectively, matching the Prime and Premium specifications sold in Malaysia. Both use lithium iron phosphate batteries.

Proton International Corporation chief executive Edmund Lim said exports would remain an important part of the company’s growth plans. Each new market adds sales volume while putting the Malaysian brand in front of more buyers, he said.

The e.MAS 5 is based on a Geely-developed electric platform and is aimed at urban buyers seeking a compact, practical EV. Proton said vehicles using the underlying architecture have reached more than 800,000 customers worldwide.

Its Nepal launch also gives Proton a two-model EV range in the country. The company is relying on local partners such as Jagdamba Motors to handle sales, customer support and market development as it builds business outside Malaysia.
