BYD has given its first official look at the second-generation Seagull, releasing design sketches of the substantially larger battery-electric hatchback in China.
BYD Ocean Network sales chief Zhang Zhuo published four sketches on his Weibo account on Sept 22, identifying the car specifically as the second-generation Seagull and saying more details would follow.
The sketches show a major styling departure from the current model. The front adopts distinctive three-pronged light graphics, while the sides gain a rising character line and floating-roof treatment. At the rear are two inverted-trapezoid light units separated by BYD lettering.
More importantly, the new Seagull has already appeared in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology regulatory filings, revealing a sizeable increase in dimensions.
It measures 4,205mm long, 1,810mm wide and 1,570mm high, with a 2,650mm wheelbase. That makes it 425mm longer than the current Seagull, while the wheelbase grows by 150mm.
The filing also lists a 95kW permanent-magnet synchronous motor supplied by BYD’s Zhengzhou operation and a lithium iron phosphate battery from FinDreams Battery. The new model remains a five-seater and has a listed maximum speed of 150kph.
The current 2026 Seagull measures 3,780mm long with a 2,500mm wheelbase and uses a 55kW motor, underlining how much BYD is moving the next generation up in size and performance.
BYD has yet to announce full specifications, pricing or a launch date for the second-generation Seagull.
