BYD has partnered with British pick-up accessories specialist Truckman to offer UK buyers of its Shark plug-in hybrid a range of hardtops, tonneau covers and cargo equipment.
The arrangement allows Shark owners to customise their vehicles for work and leisure, with the accessories available through BYD retailers.
Two hardtops are offered for the 1,200-litre load bed.
The colour-matched Grand Hardtop costs £2,716 (RM14,850) and comes with heated rear glass, pop-out windows and remote central locking.
A more utilitarian alternative is the £2,412 (RM13,180) M-Series, featuring a powder-coated finish and gull-wing side windows for easier cargo access.
Customers can also choose manually or electrically retractable tonneau covers, priced at £1,246 (RM6,810) and £1,757 (RM9,600) respectively.
The powered cover can be operated through a smartphone app. Both covers carry an IP56 weather resistance rating and accommodate optional cargo bars.
Other accessories include aluminium cross bars capable of supporting a 200kg dynamic load and a sliding DragMat for moving heavy items in and out of the load bed.
The Shark uses BYD’s DMO plug-in hybrid system, combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with electric propulsion. It produces 436PS and 652Nm, with a claimed combined driving range of 674km.
In the UK, Truckman will provide nationwide fitting and support, with the accessories covered by a three-year warranty.
Meanwhile, BYD is preparing to introduce the Shark in its home market after launching the pick-up overseas in 2024.
Fang Cheng Bao general manager Xiong Tianbo said the model is scheduled to launch in China in late November or early December, with deliveries beginning at the same time.
