The Omoda C7 range is expected to expand to three powertrain options in Malaysia, with a conventional hybrid (HEV) planned for introduction in 2027.

Neither the petrol nor plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version has officially launched locally, although bookings for both opened in August.

Unlike the PHEV, the new HEV will not require external charging. Its petrol-electric system replenishes the battery through engine operation and regenerative braking.

A key difference is battery capacity. Omoda has developed a 5kWh unit for the HEV, substantially larger than the 1.83kWh battery used in the Jaecoo J5 and J7 hybrids.

The additional capacity is intended to allow longer periods of electric propulsion, although an official EV-only driving range has not been established.

The battery also supports 2.2kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, allowing owners to power external electrical equipment.

The plug-in variant of the Omoda C7/Omoda 7.

Another feature is Super Quiet Mode, designed to reduce engine noise during starting, acceleration and cruising.

The model, known as the Omoda 7 SHS-H in some markets, was highlighted at the Chery International User Summit in Wuhu, China. The model is closely related to the Chery Tiggo 7L sold in China.

In Malaysia, the petrol C7 and C7 PHEV opened for booking with estimated prices of RM160,000 and RM180,000 respectively.

The petrol model uses a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, while the PHEV pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with an electric motor.

Current reports indicate that the petrol C7 will arrive first, followed by the PHEV. The HEV is expected to join the range in 2027.
