BYD Malaysia is exploring the installation of its 1,500kW Flash Chargers at Petronas stations and highway rest and service areas (R&Rs), potentially extending the network beyond its dealerships.
The company plans to begin at selected Denza showrooms before working with Petronas-owned Gentari to identify suitable public charging sites.
BYD and Gentari signed a memorandum of understanding in Shenzhen, China, on Oct 21 to study the feasibility of deploying the technology nationwide.
The agreement covers potential locations along major intercity routes, electricity supply requirements and battery energy storage systems (BESS) to help manage the chargers’ high power demand.
BYD’s Flash Charging technology can deliver up to 1,500kW through a single connector under optimal conditions.
The Denza Z9GT, equipped with a 122.49kWh second-generation Blade Battery and 1,000V architecture, is among the vehicles designed to use the system.
BYD claims the Z9GT can recharge from 10% to 70% in five minutes, or reach 97% in nine minutes using a compatible Flash Charger.
The Flash Chargers will be accessible to EVs from other manufacturers, although charging power will be limited by each vehicle’s capabilities.
Separately, Denza has also introduced Fjord Green as a new exterior colour for the Z9GT in Malaysia, joining the existing Rime Gold and Obsidian Black options.
