Aion has appointed Jumptech to handle home charging support for UK buyers of the Aion V, as the Chinese EV brand tries to remove one of the duller but important parts of electric car ownership: getting a wallbox installed without the usual back-and-forth.
For readers outside the UK, Jumptech is not a charger maker. It is a British software company that manages the installation process for EV chargers and other low-carbon equipment.
Its platform links the car retailer, installer and energy provider, so the customer is not left chasing three different parties after ordering the car.
That is the idea behind Aion’s tie-up. Instead of locking customers into one charger supplier or one electricity company, Aion said buyers can choose the charger and energy tariff that suit them, then begin the installation process through its home charging portal.
Once the request is made, Jumptech’s system passes the job through the right parties. The retailer, installer and energy provider each deal with their own part of the process, while the customer receives updates along the way.
Aion claimed it is the first carmaker globally to partner with Jumptech in this manner.
The partnership comes as the first Aion retailers in the UK begin selling the Aion V all-electric family SUV.
The model is priced from £36,450 (RM199,000) on-the-road.
Every Aion V also comes with the brand’s Great 8 ownership package. This bundles eight years of vehicle warranty, servicing, roadside assistance and MOT cover, subject to the usual terms and limits.
Jumptech founder and chief executive Phil Nunn said many first-time EV buyers still find home charger installation confusing, especially when faced with too many hardware choices or, at the other extreme, only one approved option.
Aion is betting that home charging support can make the Aion V easier to sell, especially to buyers moving into an EV for the first time.
