Hyundai has added a new Calligraphy Black Ink version to the Ioniq 9 range in Europe, giving its three-row electric SUV a darker flagship treatment.

Positioned above the existing Calligraphy trim, the changes announced are confined to design and cabin equipment. The new version gets a matte black Hyundai badge at the front, gloss black rear garnish and model-specific 21-inch Calligraphy Black Ink alloy wheels.

Buyers get just two exterior colour choices: Serenity White Pearl or Abyss Black Pearl.

The black theme continues inside. Hyundai has specified black Nappa leather seats, a black pure leather-wrapped steering wheel and real aluminium dashboard trim with a black finish.

It also retains the Calligraphy’s optional six-seat configuration and Universal Island 2.0 movable centre console. The Ioniq 9 can alternatively be configured as a seven-seater.

Hyundai did not announce any powertrain changes for the Black Ink version. The wider European Ioniq 9 range uses Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP electric platform and offers rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive powertrains.

European Ioniq 9 models use a 110.3kWh battery. Hyundai quotes up to 620km WLTP for the rear-drive version on 19-inch wheels; it has not published a Black Ink-specific WLTP figure.

Christopher McKinnon, vice-president and head of product at Hyundai Motor Europe, said the Black Ink treatment was intended to give the Ioniq 9 a more distinctive appearance while retaining the features customers already value.

Hyundai will introduce the Ioniq 9 Calligraphy Black Ink progressively across Europe. Each market will announce pricing and sale dates separately.
