Lexus has unveiled the all-new 2027 Lexus TZ, its first three-row, all-electric SUV, with standard all-wheel drive and a clear mission: make a large battery-powered family SUV feel quiet, polished and properly Lexus.
The new TZ is built on Toyota’s TNGA platform and will be offered with two lithium-ion battery options, rated at 76.96kWh and 95.82kWh. Lexus said selected grades are expected to offer a manufacturer-estimated driving range of 483km, though final figures may vary by market and specification. The SUV is expected to go on sale at the end of 2026.
The TZ uses Lexus’ evolved DIRECT4 all-wheel-drive system as standard. The system can vary torque between the front and rear motors depending on driving conditions, with Lexus quoting splits from 60:40 to 0:100 during acceleration and 80:20 to 0:100 during cornering.
There is also available Dynamic Rear Steering, which can turn the rear wheels by up to four degrees to improve low-speed manoeuvrability and high-speed stability.
Lexus calls the cabin concept Driving Lounge, which is a typically polished way of saying the TZ is meant to be a calm, comfortable six-seat electric SUV rather than a blunt family bus.
The low-floor layout, long wheelbase, slim dashboard, second-row captain’s chairs and panoramic roof are all aimed at making the cabin feel open. Lexus also claims the TZ has the quietest cabin among its SUVs, helped by sound-absorbing materials, aero mirrors and vibration-control work.
Comfort is a big part of the TZ. Available front passenger and second-row seats get ventilation and power ottomans, a first for a Lexus SUV. The third row uses sofa-style cushioning, while second- and third-row seats can fold with one touch for more cargo flexibility.
The TZ also debuts the latest-generation Lexus Interface multimedia system, with AT&T 5G connectivity in the US, EV route planning, an EV range map, improved “Hey Lexus” voice control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The US model uses the North American Charging Standard charging port.
Lexus has worked aero into the styling too, with a 0.27Cd drag coefficient, semi-flush door handles, underbody fins and 20- or 22-inch wheels. Sustainable cabin details include Forged Bamboo from Shikoku, bio-based UltraSuede and recycled aluminium components.
Safety is covered by Lexus Safety System+ 4.0, which is standard. Lexus said the updated suite can detect objects farther and across a wider field, with systems including pre-collision support, lane assistance, road-sign assist, proactive driving assist and available traffic-jam assistance.
