Volkswagen has delivered its 1.5 millionth all-electric ID model, handing a black ID.7 Tourer Pro to a customer at its Emden plant in Lower Saxony.
The milestone comes almost five years after the first ID cars reached buyers in September 2020. The ID.7 Tourer Pro is quoted with a range of up to 606 km.
Volkswagen board member for sales, marketing and aftersales Martin Sander said the figure confirms the brand’s lead in electric registrations in Germany and across Europe, adding that VW has the right models for customers and remains on course in its shift to battery power.
Lower Saxony Minister president Olaf Lies, attending the handover with board member for technical development Kai Grünitz, said the ID.7 showcases the state’s ability to transform; his official car during a previous ministerial role was an Emden-built ID.7.
Emden is now one of three Volkswagen sites dedicated solely to electric vehicles, alongside Zwickau and the Gläserne Manufaktur in Dresden, after more than €1 billion of investment to convert the East Frisian factory. Additional ID production runs in Hanover and Chattanooga (USA), and in Foshan, Changsha and Anting (China).
Since launch, the ID family has expanded from the ID.3 in 2020 to the ID.4 and ID.5 in 2021, plus the ID. Buzz.
The latest additions, the ID.7 and ID.7 Tourer, arrived in 2024, with the Tourer the most-registered EV in Germany in the first half of 2025.
Sander urged further policy support to speed private-buyer adoption, noting that most new EVs are currently registered to commercial fleets benefiting from tax breaks.
Volkswagen’s next steps include a sub-€25,000 ID.2all slated for 2026 and the entry-level ID. Every1 around €20,000 in 2027, as the company targets affordable, reliable and sustainable electric mobility for mass-market buyers.
