Tesla has started integrating xAI’s Grok chatbot into select Tesla models across the United States.
A pilot activation occurred over the weekend, with a full-scale release scheduled for later this week.
Grok comes pre-installed on every new Tesla delivered from July 12 onwards.
Owners of earlier vehicles can enable the feature via an over-the-air update, so long as their car dates from mid-2021 or newer, includes the AMD infotainment chip and runs software version 2025.26 or above.
The rollout covers Tesla’s sedan, hatchback, SUV and pickup lineup.
Drivers invoke Grok by tapping the App Launcher or holding down the steering-wheel voice button.
This AI assistant functions separately from Tesla’s built-in voice controls and cannot directly adjust navigation, audio or climate settings.
Existing voice commands remain intact.
To use Grok, the car must be online — either via Wi-Fi or an active Premium Connectivity subscription at US$9.99 (RM43) per month — with no extra fee for Grok itself.
Tesla warns that availability may change with future software updates.
All chatbot queries are handled by xAI without linking transcripts to a user’s Tesla account or vehicle; chats stay anonymous unless the user opts to sign in and sync history.
Grok is currently in beta and has been used for light-hearted or casual questions.
Tesla has yet to announce plans for making the feature available outside the United States.
