Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today said its European subsidiary, Mitsubishi Motors Europe B.V., would start a phased launch of the all-new Grandis compact SUV across Europe later this year.
Production will take place at Renault’s Valladolid plant in Spain under an original equipment manufacturer agreement.
The Grandis, built on the CMF-B platform supplied by alliance partner Renault, marks Mitsubishi’s first introduction of the Grandis nameplate to Europe in 13 years, following the 2023 launches of the ASX compact SUV and the Colt hatchback.
The model line will encompass both mild hybrid (MHEV) and full hybrid electric (HEV) variants, catering to increasing demand for electrified vehicles in the region.
You may recall the original Grandis, produced from 2003 to 2011, was a seven-seat MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) designed as a family people-mover with a practical and swoopy design. It replaced earlier Mitsubishi MPVs like the Chariot/Space Wagon and was marketed globally as a premium MPV. It was also sold in Malaysia. However, in 2025, the Grandis has morphed into a small SUV that seats five.
“Following the launch of the Outlander PHEV last year, we are strengthening our lineup in the European market with the introduction of the all-new Grandis, featuring Mitsubishi Motors’ Dynamic Shield design,” said Mitsubishi Motors executive vice president Tatsuo Nakamura.
The concurrent roll-out of the Eclipse Cross BEV would complete a diversified portfolio of HEV, PHEV and BEV offerings, he added.
The Grandis badge, derived from the Latin for “large and impressive”, reflects its expansive cabin and commanding exterior presence.
At the front, the brand’s Dynamic Shield design is expressed through a glossy black grille framed by satin silver accents.
A flowing roofline leads to newly styled 19-inch alloy wheels, while the rear adopts a Sculptural Hexagon motif in its combination lights and bodywork.
Inside, the Grandis seats five across two rows, with rear seats that slide up to 160mm fore and aft. Luggage capacity ranges from 434 litres with seats in their rearmost position to 566 litres when slid forward, expanding to 1,455 litres with the seatbacks folded flat.
The power remote tailgate can be operated via dashboard control, tailgate switch or hands-free foot sensor.
A panoramic glass roof with electrochromic function allows occupants to toggle between transparent and shaded modes, with split-screen presets for variable front-to-rear shading.
The MHEV variant employs a 1.3-litre direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine delivering 103 kW, paired with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (7DCT).
The HEV model combines a naturally aspirated 1.8-litre petrol engine (80 kW) with a 36 kW drive motor, a 15 kW generator, a 1.4 kWh lithium-ion traction battery and a smart multi-mode gearbox, yielding a combined output of 115 kW.
The hybrid system offers EV, hybrid and regenerative braking modes, with an E-Save function to reserve battery charge at or above 40 per cent for electric-only operation or supplemental power on inclines.
Connectivity is provided by a vertical 10.4-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio system featuring Google built-in, which integrates Google Assistant voice commands, Google Maps navigation and Google Play apps. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™ are supported wirelessly.
Four selectable drive modes — Perso, Eco, Comfort and Sport — can be customised via the display. The Mitsubishi Motors mobile app adds remote functions including car finder and digital key capabilities.
Safety features include ultrasonic sensors, cameras and forward-facing radar to underpin advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
Standard and optional systems comprise adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, around-view monitor, MI-PILOT hands-free highway driving assist, automatic high beam, blind-spot warning, lane-keeping and lane-centering assist, forward collision mitigation, pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, park assist and occupant safe-exit assist.
Pricing and exact launch dates would be announced by Mitsubishi Motors Europe B.V. in the coming months, as the company prepares to meet European emissions targets and expanding consumer interest in electrified SUVs.
The sequential rollout would begin in key markets before extending across the continent, with customer deliveries scheduled by year-end.
