GWM Malaysia has named former Proton deputy chief executive officer Roslan Abdullah as its new chief operating officer.
The Chinese marque announced the move today as it intensifies plans to build a nationwide ecosystem for smarter, greener mobility.
GWM Malaysia managing director Cui Anqi said Roslan’s three decades of experience will help fortify dealer and service networks, bolster customer confidence and cement the brand’s long-term presence in the Malaysian market.
Roslan said his goal is to establish GWM as a trusted mobility partner by offering a product line-up suited to Malaysian buyers and delivering seamless ownership experiences through reliable after-sales support.
The appointment comes as GWM scales up local operations in line with national efforts to advance low-carbon transportation and inclusive access to
electric vehicles.
In Proton, Roslan had also served as the CEO of its distribution arm Proton Edar. Proton had announced his departure on May 30.
Tongues were set a-wagging following Proton’s announcement. Rumours followed soon after with speculations that Roslan had joined GWM Malaysia though his role was unclear at the time.
Prior to working for the national car company, Roslan had worked in Honda, Isuzu Hicom Malaysia and Modenas.
