Jaecoo Malaysia has introduced the Jaecoo J7 PHEV, a plug-in hybrid SUV priced at RM158,800, making it the cheapest PHEV your money can buy – for now.

Aimed at bridging the gap between internal combustion and fully electric vehicles, the locally assembled J7 PHEV features Jaecoo’s Super Hybrid System, which combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, a dedicated hybrid transmission, and an 18.3kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

The 141hp engine, coupled with an electric motor, delivers a combined 255kW/342hp and 525Nm of torque, achieving 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds. It offers a pure electric range of 106 km (NEDC) and a total range of up to 1,300km.

The vehicle can charge from 30% to 80% in 20 minutes using a DC fast charger and fully recharge in under four hours with a 6.6 kW AC wall box.

Jaecoo highlights safety as a key feature, with the battery rated for 1 million km and protected by a 780 MPa armour to prevent punctures and discharge in a collision. It also meets IP68 dust and water resistance standards. The SUV comes with Level 2.5 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including eight airbags, Lane Departure Prevention, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

Distinctive exterior elements include a two-tone Olive Grey option, 19-inch Aero Rims, and an aero side mirror. The rear features a Cinema Tonneau Cover that can be flipped to serve as a projector screen. Inside, the J7 PHEV sports a minimalist design with a column-mounted gear shifter, maximising console space.

For driving dynamics, users can select between full EV mode or hybrid mode, with two power modes, three driving modes, and three power-saving modes. A Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature allows external devices to be powered using the vehicle’s battery.

The J7 PHEV is available in three colours: Khaki White, Carbon Crystal Black, and Moonlight Silver. Only 100 units of Khaki White will be offered before an Olive Grey option replaces it.

Jaecoo offers a seven-year/150,000 km engine warranty and an eight-year/160,000 km warranty for the battery, power motor, and controller unit.

The eight-year warranty provides a 1-to-1 exchange when the state of health (SOH) of the battery falls below 70% during the warranty tenure.

An early bird package extends the warranty to 10 years or 1,000,000 km for bookings made by 2 March 2025.

All purchases include a complimentary V2L charger.
