China’s Zeekr has arrived in Malaysia, launching two models in one go.

It introduced the 009 luxury MPV and the X compact SUV today.

Distributed by Sentinel Automotive Sdn Bhd, deliveries for the models are set to begin in mid-December, with the 009 priced at RM349,800 for the 7-seater and RM359,800 for the 6-seater.

The X is available in two variants: the Premium at RM155,800 and the Flagship AWD at RM172,800.

Zeekr was focusing on the 009 at the launch ceremony, with nary a word of introduction of the X, making some members of the press scratched their heads. But its press release gave the specs and prices of the X, so consider the X launched!

Both models come with a 5-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year or 160,000 km battery warranty.

They also feature two years of complimentary connected services, including 6GB internet data, onboard navigation, and over-the-air software updates.

Early adopters, limited to the first 500 buyers, will receive a home charger, portable charger, and additional accessories, including solar film and a sunshade cover for the X.

The 009 is a luxury electric MPV featuring dual electric motors delivering 450 kW of power and 693 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 4.5 seconds. Equipped with a 116 kWh battery, it offers a WLTP range of 582 km and supports fast charging from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes.

It is aimed squarely at the Toyota Alphard, a combustion engine MPV, which has ruled the roost for years , offering its well-heeled customers all the space and luxurious comfort they want. Zeekr hopes to upend the status quo, come 2025. And by then, it will also have to contend with GWM’s Wey 80, a plug-in hybrid, that was previewed at the ongoing 2024 Kuala Lumpur Mobility Show (Dec 5-11).

There’s also the all-electric Westar Maxus MIFA 9 that arrived in Malaysia in November 2023. However, the MIFA 9 is not in the same league as the 009 in terms of performance and luxury levels and that is reflected in its sub-RM300,000 pricing.

The X is a performance-oriented electric crossover.

The Premium model features a 200kW/268hp electric motor and 343Nm of torque, achieving 0 to 100kph in 5.6 seconds.

The Flagship AWD delivers 315 kW/422hp and 543Nm of torque, propelling the vehicle from 0 to 100kph in just 3.8 seconds.

Both versions feature a 66 kWh battery with a WLTP range of up to 440 km and support 150 kW DC fast charging, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in 30 minutes.

The SUV boasts a design based on the “golden ratio,” combining aesthetic appeal and aerodynamic efficiency.

Key exterior elements include hidden door handles, frameless doors, and dual-edge LED daytime running lights, with five colour options such as Crystal White and Pine Green.

Inside, the minimalist cabin features premium materials, including soft-touch surfaces and rose gold accents. Standard amenities include a panoramic sunroof, customisable ambient lighting, and a 14.6-inch central display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 13-speaker Yamaha sound system, augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD), and a 50W wireless charger enhance the interior experience.

The X has earned 5-star ratings from Euro NCAP and Green NCAP for its safety and sustainability.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) include Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Support, and Automated Parking Assist, supported by five cameras and radars for heightened situational awareness.

According to Sentinel Automotive director Mohamed Reza Abdul Mutalib, Zeekr provides a value proposition unmatched in its price segments, highlighting the 009’s luxurious design and performance as pivotal in attracting consumer interest.

On the dealership network, Zeekr has opened its flagship showroom in Petaling Jaya, a 12,187-square-foot facility that will serve as a hub for sales and service. Another showroom in Sunway City, Selangor is also operational, with plans for four additional locations in Selangor, Penang, and Johor by mid-2025. Further expansions will follow in Kuala Lumpur, Pahang, Melaka, and Sarawak.
