The GAC M8, Malaysia’s first premium plug-in hybrid MPV, is available to order in Premium and Luxury variants, ahead of its official launch soon.
Prices are yet to be finalised. The M8 Luxury variant is estimated to retail at RM380,000,while the Premium version will sell for around RM333,000.
The MPV is being promoted at the Premium Auto Car Expo (PACE) 2025, held at the Setia City Convention Centre in Shah Alam, from July 19–20.
The M8 combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with a two-speed hybrid transmission to deliver a combined driving range of up to 1,038km. Pure electric range is cited as 106km. AC charging takes 3.5 hours to full charge; DC charging to 80% is said to be 30 minutes.
The 182 PS/180hp and 300Nm electric motor in the front axle is powered by a 25.57 kWh lithium-ion battery. Combined output is 373 PS/370hp and 630Nm torque.
The M8 sprints from 0-100kph in 8.8 seconds, and has a top speed of 180kph.
The GAC M8 PHEV competes with premium MPVs like the Toyota Alphard, Lexus LM, and luxury Chinese models such as the Zeekr 009.
Designed for comfort and safety, it features reclining captain seats with One-Touch Spa function, a Yamaha premium sound system and GAC’s patented 360-degree airbag system — including the world’s first rear-windscreen airbag to protect third-row occupants.
The seven-seat M8 competes with premium MPVs like the Toyota Alphard, Lexus LM, and luxury Chinese models such as the Zeekr 009.
GAC Malaysia also revealed the locally assembled Emkoo for the first time.
Like the M8, Emkoo pricing is tentative. Offered in Premium and Premium Pro trims, it is estimated to retail for around RM120, 000 and RM 130, 000 respectively.
The Emkoo is powered by a 1.5 TGDI engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, achieving fuel consumption of 6.6 L/100 km.
Its interior boasts a dual-screen cockpit with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment display compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, including Full Automatic Parking Assist, enhance safety and convenience. Visitors were able to experience test drives at the expo.
Alongside the Emkoo and M8, current GAC models were offered with competitive deals.
The all-electric Aion Y Plus starts from RM95,800 and includes a complimentary portable charger. It delivers an NEDC-tested range of up to 490km and carries an eight-year or 160,000 km vehicle warranty, with an eight-year or 200,000km warranty on battery, motor and electronics.
The GS3 Emzoom is now available with monthly instalments from RM 990, backed by a five-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty and an extended seven-year or 180,000 km warranty on the engine and powertrain.
