Four major European electric vehicle (EV) charging companies —Atlante, Electra, Fastned, and IONITY — have joined forces to form the Spark Alliance, the continent’s largest and most integrated EV charging network.
The partnership was officially announced on today in Paris by the CEOs of the respective firms.
The Spark Alliance aims to simplify public EV charging by offering seamless access, payment, and route planning across all participating networks.
From summer 2025, EV drivers will be able to charge and pay at any of the alliance’s 1,700 stations using their existing charging app, without the need to download new software or register additional payment methods.
Addressing a key pain point in EV adoption, the collaboration eliminates the complexity of navigating multiple charging operators, apps, and pricing systems.
Through shared route planning integration, users will be able to locate any of the 11,000 high-speed charging points operated by the alliance across 25 European countries, all of which supply electricity from 100% renewable sources.
This unified network is positioned as a critical step towards improving driver confidence and accelerating the uptake of electric mobility. By creating a more user-friendly charging experience, the Spark Alliance hopes to reduce friction for both existing and potential EV owners.
