BYD has revealed more of the second-generation Seagull’s interior, including a massaging driver’s seat, 94-litre frunk and expanded storage as the electric hatchback grows substantially in size.
BYD Ocean Network sales division general manager Zhang Zhuo disclosed the latest details on Sept 30.
Both front seats are electrically adjustable, with massage for the driver, while the cabin also gets multi-colour ambient lighting, automatic air-conditioning and a column-mounted gear selector.
The Seagull also gains concealed storage beneath the rear seats. Folding the second row increases luggage capacity to as much as 1,380 litres.
The new model measures 4,205mm long, 1,810mm wide and 1,570mm tall, with a 2,650mm wheelbase, according to Chinese regulatory information. It is 425mm longer than the current Seagull, while the wheelbase has increased by 150mm. The cabin now accommodates five occupants.
Power comes from a rear-mounted 95kW permanent-magnet synchronous motor, making the new Seagull rear-wheel drive.
The car is listed with 30kWh and 39.2kWh lithium iron phosphate battery options, providing 320km and 420km of CLTC range respectively, according to Chinese regulatory information.
BYD had earlier released design sketches showing a reshaped front end, rising waistline and floating-roof treatment.
The current Seagull is selling for 69,900 yuan to 85,900 yuan (RM43,000 to RM53,000), so the sticker price of the new one is expected to remain affordable at under 100,000 yuan (RM61,000).
