Bridgestone will become the sole tyre supplier for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship from the 2026/27 season, supplying its new Potenza Gen4 tyres for the championship’s fastest and most powerful car yet.
The Gen4 racer produces up to 600kW, or 815bhp, and can accelerate from 0–100kph in 1.8 seconds. Top speed is 335kph, while permanent active all-wheel drive places greater demands on tyre grip, durability and consistency.
Bridgestone has developed two tyre specifications for the new car.
The Potenza Gen4 is designed to deliver high grip across varying road and weather conditions while maintaining performance throughout a race.
A separate Potenza Gen4 for Typhoon Tyre has been developed for heavy rain and standing-water conditions.
Bridgestone said recycled and renewable materials account for 65% of each Gen4 tyre, including carbon black derived from end-of-life tyre pyrolysis oil and silica sourced from rice husks. Renewable energy is also allocated to heat and electricity used in tyre production.
The tyres were unveiled at the Bridgestone Formula E World Premiere in Rome on Sept 30 ahead of the new season, which is scheduled to start in December 2026.
Bridgestone will also serve as title sponsor for four Formula E events during the season: Mexico City, Berlin, Shanghai and Tokyo.
