Škoda has driven its new seven-seat Peaq electric SUV for 936 km without recharging, stretching a single charge almost 45% beyond the model’s official WLTP range.

The run started at Škoda’s Mladá Boleslav headquarters in the Czech Republic on Aug 25 and ended the following afternoon in Zandvoort, Netherlands. Certification authority TÜV SÜD monitored the attempt, while the charging-port flap was sealed before departure.

More importantly, this was a standard-production Peaq 90 rather than a specially prepared prototype. It used the regular 91 kWh gross, 86 kWh usable battery, a 210 kW motor, rear-wheel drive and 19-inch wheels with production low-rolling-resistance tyres.

Average energy consumption over the 936 km journey was just 9.2 kWh/100 km. The Peaq 90 is officially rated for up to 647 km under the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), making the record run 289 km longer.

There is an important qualification. This was an economy run, not an attempt to replicate typical ownership. Drivers Marek Jež and Jakub Krs deliberately selected secondary roads with relatively light traffic and maintained a smooth, consistent pace where possible. Škoda said favourable dry weather also helped.

Krs, who works on the Peaq’s high-voltage battery strategy, said the exercise was intended to find the limit of the technology. He acknowledged that customers would not normally drive the SUV in the same manner.

Despite being Škoda’s largest SUV, the Peaq has a drag coefficient of 0.249, helped by measures including active front shutters, air curtains and flush door handles.

Škoda described the 936 km result as a record for seven-seat electric SUVs. The run was also recognised by the Czech Book of Records in its category for the longest distance travelled by an EV on a single charge.

The Peaq is built in Mladá Boleslav and has already entered series production. Other features include bidirectional charging and an electrochromic panoramic roof with Dynamic Shade Control. Škoda said it had received more than 10,000 orders.
