BMW Group Malaysia has appointed Raymond Tan as managing director, making him the first Malaysian to lead the company’s local operations.
Tan will take up the position on Sept 1, 2026, succeeding Benjamin Nagel. He will oversee the BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad businesses in Malaysia.
The appointment brings Tan back to the Malaysian operation where he began his BMW career in 2003 as product and price planning manager.
He later held several senior positions within the group, including a regional product role at BMW’s headquarters in Munich, as well as head of marketing and head of sales in Malaysia.
Tan currently manages BMW Group’s importer markets covering Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.
Nagel, who has led BMW Group Malaysia for about two and a half years, will move in the opposite direction. He has been appointed managing director for the Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao importer markets.
Tan’s new responsibilities will include developing BMW’s Malaysian business, strengthening its retail network and maintaining customer loyalty as the company prepares to introduce its Neue Klasse generation of vehicles.
