BYD has officially named its upcoming ultra-luxury sedan the Yangwang Altior, with its global debut planned for the United Arab Emirates in November.
Previously identified by the development code HU, the flagship model will be sold under the Chinese name Dingyao.
Hu Xiaoqing, head of Yangwang’s sales division, said Altior is derived from the Latin word for “higher”, reflecting the brand’s ambitions at the top end of the luxury market.
The Chinese name combines characters representing stability and radiance.
A teaser released today revealed a large executive saloon with rear-hinged coach doors, a long bonnet and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor.
The Altior will enter a segment occupied by the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, extending Yangwang’s range beyond its existing U7 sedan.
According to CarNewsChina, the new flagship measures about 5.5 metres long, with a 3,350mm wheelbase. These dimensions have not been officially confirmed.

The publication also reports that the unveiling is scheduled for Nov 5 in Dubai. It is estimated to be priced at around US$300,000 (RM1.3 million).
Choosing the UAE for the Altior’s first public appearance puts BYD’s most ambitious luxury sedan before an overseas audience ahead of its home market.
Yangwang’s existing line-up includes the U7 luxury sedan, U8 off-road SUV and U9 electric supercar.
