Chery has hit a significant construction milestone in Malaysia, completing the structural framework of Phase 1 of its Smart Auto Industrial Park in Lembah Beringin, Selangor.
The topping-out ceremony drew Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and state investment councillor Ng Sze Han, who joined Chery management to place the final roof tile on what will become the Chinese brand’s largest assembly facility in the country.
The site spans 81ha and carries a RM2.2 billion price tag.
Construction kicked off after a 2025 groundbreaking, and operations are expected to begin next year once interior fit-out and system installations are complete.
Ng confirmed the state is developing a dedicated automotive valley straddling Serendah and Lembah Beringin.
“It is where carmakers, component suppliers, research, and training sit side by side,” he said, calling Chery’s investment the first major step towards that goal.
Amirudin added the plant could fast-track supply chain development and generate better-quality jobs for the people of Selangor.
For Chery, the plant underpins its multi-brand push in Malaysia — covering Chery, Omoda, Jaecoo, iCar, and the incoming Lepas marque.
Senior director Michael Chew called it a reflection of the brand’s confidence in Malaysia as a regional hub.
The facility will support assembly, innovation and customer delivery as Chery steps up its Asean footprint.
