BYD to add Parkopedia in-car parking payments in Europe from 2027

BYD drivers in Europe will soon be able to find and pay for parking from inside the car, as the Chinese carmaker teams up with Parkopedia.

The new ParkPay service is planned for production BYD vehicles from early 2027. It will run through BYD’s connected mobility app within Android Automotive OS, with Google built in.

The idea is simple enough. When a supported BYD model detects that the driver is parking in a covered location, the car can show a prompt on the infotainment screen.

Tap it, and ParkPay opens with the relevant parking area already selected. The driver can then start a parking session without reaching for another app.

Parkopedia will supply the parking data and payment function. BYD cars will also use RingGo payment integration in the UK and EasyPark coverage across Europe, giving the system wider reach from the start.

Newer models, including the c are due to get the app pre-installed. Older compatible BYD vehicles are expected to receive it through over-the-air updates.

The first phase is focused on parking data and in-car payments. Later updates are planned to add parking reservations, public EV charging payments and tolling payments.

For BYD, the tie-up is another step in making its European cars feel more local. Parking apps, payment rules and city restrictions vary heavily across the region, and drivers do not need one more screen to fight with.

BYD executive vice-president Stella Li said the ParkPay service forms part of the company’s connected-car experience.

Parkopedia’s automotive and data head Duncan Licence said the partnership would support BYD drivers with connected services built around parking and payments.
