Škoda has released interior sketches of the Peaq, its new electric seven-seat flagship, ahead of the SUV’s world premiere in France on June 23.
The drawings show a cabin aimed at families rather than show-car fantasy. There is a wide, horizontal dashboard, a compact digital instrument display and a floating centre console.
The bigger change is the infotainment screen: the Peaq uses a vertical central display, a first for Škoda.
Just as useful, Škoda has kept physical controls for everyday jobs such as climate settings, volume and other basic functions. That should spare owners from prodding through menus just to cool the cabin or turn the music down.
The front armrests are adjustable and shaped to support use of the portrait screen. Integrated magnetic wireless docks are also fitted, so phones have somewhere tidy to live and charge.
Škoda calls the cabin theme “Lodge”. The idea is soft textile-based surfaces mixed with more durable touch points and easy-care finishes. In a seven-seater, that is probably the important bit. Children, snacks and muddy shoes are not kind to delicate trim.
Chan Park, Škoda’s head of in-car and UX design, said the brand wanted to connect the physical seven-seat layout with the digital side of the car while reducing complexity for users.
The Peaq will debut in Monnetier-Mornex, a small commune near Geneva on the French side of the Salève mountain, roughly 540km by road from Paris.
