BMW Brilliance is preparing its Shenyang production base for local Neue Klasse assembly, as BMW moves its next-generation electric models closer to Chinese customers.
The plant is being upgraded around Neue Klasse production, with BMW citing changes to its production system, digital architecture and local supply-chain work.
The company said the Shenyang site is also using flexible manufacturing, artificial intelligence-based quality checks and a more connected digital production network as it readies the facility for the new models.
BMW has confirmed that local Neue Klasse production would start at its Shenyang base later this year. Shenyang’s municipal government has further reported that the long-wheelbase iX3 and i3 models would be mass-produced there.
BMW said the move would open a new chapter for the brand in China, where it has been building cars with Brilliance since 2003.
BMW describes Shenyang as one of its key global production and innovation hubs, covering vehicle manufacturing, powertrain production, research and development, and a localised supply chain. That gives the plant a bigger role than assembly alone.
The update comes as BMW Brilliance marks another production milestone.
Its seven-millionth vehicle has rolled off the Shenyang line, with the milestone car being a BMW 3 Series Horse Edition built for the Chinese market.
