VinFast has appointed Pham Nhat Quan Anh, the eldest son of founder Pham Nhat Vuong, as global chief executive officer as the Vietnamese electric vehicle maker shifts more responsibility to a younger generation of leaders.

Quan Anh, 33, succeeds his father as CEO of VinFast Global while retaining the chairmanship he took over in May. He will also serve as chairman and CEO of VinFast Vietnam, giving him overall responsibility for the carmaker’s operations.

Born in 1993, Quan Anh holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Singapore Management University. He joined VinFast in 2019 after working at Vingroup hospitality arm Vinpearl and has since held senior roles covering vehicle development, manufacturing, sales and aftersales.

He will also remain CEO of VinMetal Trading and Production JSC, Vingroup’s steel business.

The handover comes as VinFast continues its overseas expansion. The company said it now has a presence in 16 countries, including India, Indonesia and the Philippines, as well as markets in Europe, the Middle East and North America.

Its electric cars and motorcycles are produced at four facilities in Vietnam, Indonesia and India.

The changes extend beyond VinFast. Nguyen Quoc Tuan has been named chairman of GSM Global, replacing Pham Thu Huong, while Pham Nhat Minh Hoang, the founder’s second son, becomes CEO of GSM Global and GSM Vietnam.

GSM operates the Green SM electric mobility business, which currently has operations in seven countries. It plans to enter at least three more markets this year.

For VinFast, the appointment puts both the board and day-to-day management under Quan Anh just four months after he became chairman. Vuong, who had been global CEO, is stepping aside from the operating role while VinFast pushes further into international markets.
