Chinese autonomous driving company WeRide has launched a global insurance partnership programme to support the expansion of its driverless vehicle operations across international markets.
Allianz Insurance Singapore and China’s Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance are the programme’s first partners, helping develop coverage tailored to Level 4 autonomous vehicles.
These vehicles can operate without human intervention within defined conditions, introducing insurance risks that differ from conventional motor vehicles.
The programme will address motor liability, product liability, cybersecurity and privacy risks while meeting individual countries’ regulatory requirements.
WeRide currently operates around 3,600 autonomous vehicles worldwide, including more than 1,800 robotaxis, across 13 countries and over 60 cities.
The company intends to use the insurance programme to support the deployment of tens of thousands of autonomous vehicles as its operations expand.
In Singapore, Allianz already provides insurance for WeRide’s driverless services, including the Ai.R autonomous shuttle operated with Grab in Punggol.
As of October 2026, the service had carried more than 13,000 individual passengers and covered over 135,000km in autonomous operation.
Ping An, meanwhile, supports WeRide’s robotaxi operations in China and the Middle East, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
WeRide is also preparing to expand its autonomous driving services into more European markets.
The insurance arrangements are intended to provide a common framework for managing risks as the company builds larger driverless fleets across different countries.
