Volvo Car Corporation has filed an EX50 trademark in Europe, days before Volvo Cars said it would reveal two new electrified models after the summer.
The EX50 application was filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office on July 14 and covers cars and electric cars.
A trademark filing does not confirm that Volvo will use the name for a production model, nor does it establish specifications or a launch date.
Three days later, Volvo said in its second-quarter results that it would reveal two new models after the summer to strengthen its electrified range. The company did not name them or identify either as the EX50.
Volvo has separately confirmed that an unannounced next-generation model would become the first vehicle built at its new Košice plant in Slovakia. The Polestar 7 is planned to follow as the factory’s second model. Volvo has not identified that first vehicle as the EX50.
Another clue comes from manufacturing supplier CHROPYNSKA Group. In March 2025, it disclosed work on a Volvo V326 battery-tray project at the Košice plant. The post linked the V326 designation to a Volvo electric-vehicle programme at Košice, but did not identify V326 as the EX50.
Automotive News has been cited by subsequent reports as identifying V326 as the forthcoming EX50, a compact electric crossover due for production at Košice in 2027.
